City of Grace and Somebody Cares - Changing Malawi One Community At A Time

Somebody Cares, our primary ministry partner in the battle against HIV/AIDS in Malawi, Africa has experienced tremendous growth and effectiveness in the 33 communities they work in. According to Theresa Malila, the Executive Director of Somebody Cares, this has been a result of the long-term partnership between City of Grace and Somebody Cares. A City of Grace team returned from 2 weeks in Malawi at the end of October - and shortly thereafter, I received an email from Theresa that outlined ...

City of Grace Global Adventure Team to Malawi Update

Categorized as Malawi HIV/AIDS Africa

It is Thursday, October 16 here in Lilongwe, Malawi.  Today the temperature will be in the in the low 90's with bright sunshine and a good dose of humidity.  Being from Phoenix we think - that actually sounds wonderful - but after a day of ministry in the villages we all come home dirty, tired, hungry and ready for a good nights sleep.  You may wonder what we do in a typical day - so here is what today looks like: 6:30 - 7:30 am     &...

I am writing this from the Korea Garden Lodge in Lilongwe, Malawi.  Malawi is known as the "warm heart of Africa" and our team of 17 has already sensed this warmness upon arrival. It's a long way to Lilongwe - it took us 2 days to get here! Tonight our team met with the leaders of Somebody Cares and Visionledd to talk about the plans for the week.  We will be VERY busy.  The schedule for the next two days includes: Ministering to and profiling over 150 Home-Based Care ...

Reflections From The Land Of Turkey

Categorized as Turkey

As the water taxi made it's way across the Bosphorus I looked out on the gleaming water and the shoreline filled with apartments, high-rise office buildings and the minarets of the hundreds of mosque that dot the landscape of Istanbul, Turkey.  My thoughts went back to my trip to Seoul, Korea last year where the skyline is filled with illuminated crosses almost everywhere you look.  What a huge contrast between these two world-class cities. As the water taxi continued on its way, I ...

Does God Live in Istanbul?

Categorized as Turkey

This morning as I was eating breakfast in a restaurant in Istanbul, Turkey I watched as literally thousands of people passed before me on the busy streets of this city of 15 million people. I drank my coffee and watched the frantic scene in front of me.  Some of the people walking by were dressed very conservatively -- women with headscarves and men in their working clothes.  Others -- mostly younger men and women -- would not have been given a second look in any city in Europe or ...

Supporting and Training Pastors in Malaw

Recently we received the following report from Somebody Cares, our ministry partners in Malawi.  Somebody Cares works with over 1,200 pastors in communities surrounding the capital city of Lilongwe.  The great majority of these men and women have no commentaries or other resources that will help them lead their churches.  Until recently, many of them did not have Bibles.   This year the Evangelical Alliance of Malawi made Pastors Training Kits availabe ...

Stories from Around The Globe

Recently I received an update from Scriptures in Use one of our long-term ministry partners in Asia and Northern Africa.  I was amazed by what God is doing through Scriptures in Use as they train church planters ministering among unreached peoples.   DATELINE: ETHIOPIA In April of 2008, twentyseven church planters and evangelists were trained in Jeldu, Ethiopia.  Since then, 22 new churches have been planted and over 3,250 people have made commitments to Je...
