Somebody Cares, our primary ministry partner in the battle against HIV/AIDS in Malawi, Africa has experienced tremendous growth and effectiveness in the 33 communities they work in. It is Thursday, October 16 here in Lilongwe, Malawi. Today the temperature will be in the in the low 90's with bright sunshine and a good dose of humidity. Being from Phoenix we think - that actually sounds wonderful - but after a day of ministry in the villages we all come home dirty, tired, hungry and ready for a good nights sleep.

I am writing this from the Korea Garden Lodge in Lilongwe, Malawi. Malawi is known as the "warm heart of Africa" and our team of 17 has already sensed this warmness upon arrival. It's a long way to Lilongwe - it took us 2 days to get here!

As the water taxi made it's way across the Bosphorus I looked out on the gleaming water and the shoreline filled with apartments, high-rise office buildings and the minarets of the hundreds of mosque that dot the landscape of Istanbul, Turkey. My thoughts went back to my trip to Seoul, Korea last year where the skyline is filled with illuminated crosses almost everywhere you look. What a huge contrast between these two world-class cities.

This morning as I was eating breakfast in a restaurant in Istanbul, Turkey I watched as literally thousands of people passed before me on the busy streets of this city of 15 million people. In October 2005 a team of City of Grace leaders travelled to Malawi, Africa to see how we could join God in what he was doing. Recently we received the following report from Somebody Cares, our ministry partners in Malawi. Somebody Cares works with over 1,200 pastors in communities surrounding the capital city of Lilongwe. The great majority of these men and women have no commentaries or other resources that will help them lead their churches. Until recently, many of them did not have Bibles.

Recently I received an update from Scriptures in Use one of our long-term ministry partners in Asia and Northern Africa. I was amazed by what God is doing through Scriptures in Use as they train church planters ministering among unreached peoples.
